The Ministry of National Education which prioritizes equal opportunity in education in preschool education and dissemination of preschool education prepared a regulation that decreased the number of students required to open a kindergarten class from 10 to 5 in small residential areas like villages for the interrupted education in preschool education in line with the recent developments during the pandemic.

The Ministry made important investments in education varying from preschool to special education, from primary and secondary education to higher education, said National Education Minister Mahmut Özer adding that these investments increased the possibility of students from different segments of the society accessing education.

Stating that they are planning to complete the construction of 5 thousand new kindergartens in the second term of the education year as part of their goal to open 40 thousand kindergarten classes, Özer went on to say:

"We have opened 4 thousand and 3 new kindergarten classes in the entire country approximately within a month. 79 thousand children started to get education in these classes. Our recent attempt increased the schooling rate among the 5 year old age group from 78 percent to 84 percent. At this point, we realized that we must update our goal. Our new goal is to open 10 thousand new kindergarten classes by February."

The new regulation will be an important step in increasing accessibility to preschool education in small residential areas like villages. From now on, village schools will be able to open preschool classes for 5 students instead of 10. Our main priority is to allow all children to have accessibility to preschool education by increasing the number of kindergarten classes and schools."
