MINISTER SELÇUK ATTENDS WORLD CHILD LABOR DAY PANEL

Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk attended the "June 12 World Child Labor Day Panel" organized at the Presidential Nation Library. Minister Selçuk said during his speech at the panel that, "We must consider the common ground of these children and it is an issue that we must be respectful and take careful steps. Our common ground is children and youth. Our main duty is to protect the best interests of children. Children's accession to education as well as providing them continuous and quality of education is extremely important. When we achieve this goal, we would also solve an important part of the child labor problem."

Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk and Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık attended the "June 12 World Day Against Child Labor Day" organized at the Presidential Nation Library.
 
Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk said during his speech at the panel that he carefully monitors the child labor problem and his Ministry will continue to work in an effort to cooperate in order to work on this issue in the future.
 
Stressing that the struggle against child labor is a long term issue that requires careful examination, Selçuk went on to say that, "We must consider the common ground of these children and it is an issue that we must be respectful and take careful steps. Our common ground is children and youth. Our main duty is to protect the best interests of children. Children's accession to education as well as providing them continuous and quality education is extremely important. When we achieve this goal, we will also solve an important part of the child labor problem."
 
Selçuk stated that child labor has been the subject of major discussions since the past to until today especially in the countries known as industrial societies and in some parts of the world adding that; "
 
"Our main point of view and philosophy is based on equal opportunities and equal rights. Providing all kinds of means, education opportunity and accession form the foundation of equal rights and opportunities. We need to raise awareness about this subject in the public."

Noting that adult education activities are carried out under the roof of Directorate General for Lifelong Learning, Selçuk said: "We have courses about the importance of education during childhood, the education process of children and awareness about these subjects for adults. Of course, the general purpose of our Ministry is to raise healthy and happy people who are ready for life. We are taking steps in our path with our children and youth who are capable of doing research, solving problems, dreaming about the future, competing with their peers in the world and internalizing humanitarian, national and moral values."
 
Selçuk pointed out to the children of seasonal workers and their accession to education and went on to say that: "These issues are mentioned in the 2023 Education Vision, too. Records of seasonal workers, nomadic and semi-nomadic families are registered in the e-School Management Information System. These studies allow us to enroll students or transfer them to nearest schools."
 
Selçuk stated that his Ministry also carried out projects for mobile teaching in order provide education to all children in the country and added: "Conditional cash transfer for education contributed to the prevention of child labor. When we consider the statistics recorded since 2003, we can say that we have achieved 100 percent success in interrupted attendance of girls to school programs. Now, we are working in an effort to increase the quality of education and improve vocational education. We have many national and international projects regarding sports, arts and nature aiming at reinforcing the relationship between the school and the students."
