SARIYER MEHMET TABANCA KINDERGARTEN OPENED WITH A CEREMONY

Sarıyer Mehmet Tabanca Kindergarten was opened with a ceremony participated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's spouse Emine Erdoğan and Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's spouse Emine Erdoğan said during her speech at the inauguration ceremony of Sarıyer Mehmet Tabanca Kindergarten that this modern school will be a key to a beautiful future for children.

"Charity is our most significant social characteristic. Our old civilization has inherited this unique kindness and solidarity practice. Those who work in an effort to serve the entire society are our proud," said Emine Erdoğan and thanked the Tabanca Family and the Ministry of National Education for their efforts.

Erdoğan quoted that the proverb as, "as the twig is bent, so grows the tree" and reminded that 70 percent of mental, emotional, social and psychical development of a human is completed between 0-6 years.

"Due to this reason, preschool education is extremely important in the language development of children and reinforcement of their social and emotional skills. Children who attended preschool education have higher academic success. Moreover, preschool education provides equal opportunity for the children of disadvantageous groups. Kindergarten is the start point of life," said Emine Erdoğan.

"Schooling rate of 5 year old children reached 93 percent"
Erdoğan noted that the government has been giving importance to early childhood education due to this reason adding that, "Schooling rate of five year old children which was 11 percent in the 2000s has reached 93 percent today. Our goal is to enroll all five year old children in the country in preschool education institutions until the end of 2022. The 10,000 Schools in Basic Education Project was an important step. This project aimed at opening 3 thousand new kindergartens and 10,200 preschool classrooms. We dropped the quota required to open preschool classrooms in rural areas and villages from 10 students to 5 students. This allowed 20 thousand village children to enroll in preschool education. We are happy to reach our children by using the "rotating teacher model" in places where there are only 3 or 4 preschool children. "

Emine Erdoğan stated that countries can resist various different global tests such as migrations, climate crisis and pandemics with their quality of human resources adding that, "When we look back to the past, we see that this country has raised many important people, scientists and intellectuals. Our civilization was built in education institutions. Scientists of this soil worked as the source of information. Our country has great human potential. I sincerely believe that we will make the most of this potential in cooperation."

"We prioritized preschool education in order to complete the revolutionary transition in education"
Meanwhile, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer reminded that his Ministry has been carrying out many projects in order to reinforce equal opportunity in education under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan and thanked her for this support.

Noting that Türkiye has achieved to reach the schooling rates of OECD countries in all levels of education except from preschool education in the last twenty years, Özer went on to say that, "Due to this reason, we prioritized preschool education in order to complete the revolutionary transition in education and decided to open 3,000 kindergartens and 40,000 preschool classrooms under the auspices of Emine Erdoğan. Our goal was to reach the OECD average in preschool education schooling rates. Preschool education is crucial for maintaining equal opportunity in education. In the 2000s, preschool education schooling rate was around 11 percent. If a country wants to reinforce its education system and focus on equal opportunity in education, it has to maintain the same quality in education for all children regardless of their family's income level. Our goal was to increase the schooling rate of five year old children from 78 percent to 100 percent. I am very happy to say that we have inaugurated 1,450 independent kindergarten buildings and 10,000 preschool classrooms until the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year."

Özer stressed that the number of independent kindergartens before the beginning of preschool education campaign was 2,780 and the Ministry inaugurated 1.450 new kindergartens within ten months.

Özer mentioned that there were 147 state and 1,538 private kindergartens in İstanbul before the beginning of preschool project adding that, "Due to this reason, we had decided to open 1,000 state kindergartens in İstanbul. 690 of the newly inaugurated 1,450 kindergartens were constructed in İstanbul."

Özer said that he believed that they will achieve their goal to open 3,000 kindergartens by the end of this year and stressed that, "We will complete the revolutionary transition in education under the leadership of our President Erdoğan in all levels of education."

Expressing his gratitude to President Erdoğan during his speech, Özer went on to say that he is grateful to him as he led this important campaign carried out in order to provide all children of this country to have equal and free education regardless of their location and income level.

Özer reminded that in the 2000s, only 11 children out of 100 children were enrolled in preschool education and the schooling rate of preschool education was 78 percent when he was named as the Minister of National Education.

"This rate has reached 93 percent today. Schooling rate in secondary education which was 44 percent in the 2000s was 44 percent and it is 90 percent today. Net schooling rate in higher education increased from 14 percent to 48 percent. For the first time, all parts of the country have the same equal opportunity to reach the quality of education. This period will be remembered as one of the most important periods in the history of education and we will have the opportunity to write more success stories," stated Özer.

He noted that although the average schooling rate in Türkiye was 78 percent and schooling rate of five year old children was 45 in İstanbul before the beginning of the project adding that this figure reached 87 percent recently.

Özer went on to say that: "Schooling rate of five year old children in Ankara was 42 percent, it is 84 percent today. Schooling rate of five year old children in İzmir was 55 percent, it is 92 percent today. Let me give other examples from other cities. It was 25 percent in Giresun and it reached 98 percent within ten months. It was 38 percent and it is 77 percent today. In Siirt, it was 33 percent and it is 90 percent today.
