MINISTER ÖZER ADDRESSED HIS COUNTERPARTS AT EDUCATION MINISTERS ROUND TABLE SESSION DURING THE TRANSFORMING EDUCATION PRE SUMMIT

Addressing his counterparts during the Education Ministers Round Table Session held as a part of the Transforming Education Pre summit in Paris, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer mentioned prior objectives of education in Türkiye. Özer stated that despite being the host of the largest number of Syrian refugees in the World, Türkiye displays an example for other countries as it Works in an effort to provide quality of education to Syrian students.

Transforming Education Pre Summit organized by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization based in Paris as a preparation meeting of the upcoming Transforming Education Summit is taking place between June 28 and 30 in Paris.
 
On the second day of the pre summit, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer held bilateral meetings after the opening session.
 
Later, Minister Özer addressed his counterparts at the Education Ministers Round Table Session carried out as a part of pre summit and participated by approximately 100 education ministers and 50 deputy ministers.
 
Minister Özer noted that Türkiye has a large education system with more than 1 million teachers and 19 million students.
 
Stressing that Türkiye has increased schooling rate in all levels of education starting from preschool to higher education in the last 20 years, Minister Özer said that the schooling rate among the 5 year old age group which was 11 percent in the 2000s recently reached 90 percent. 
 
Özer said that the Ministry of National Education has defined three prior objectives after the pandemic and noted that the first prior issue of his Ministry is increasing equal opportunity in education.
 
"No matter what the conditions are, we are working in an effort to provide equal and quality of education to all students. Despite being the host of the largest number of Syrian refugees in the World, Türkiye displays an example for other countries as it Works in an effort to provide quality of education to Syrian students," said Özer.
 
Stating that another prior issue of his Ministry is vocational education, Özer went on to say that vocational education in Türkiye went through transformation and curriculum of vocational high schools are updated after consulting with sector actors.  He noted that the third prior objective is the professional improvement programs for teachers. Özer reminded me that Türkiye passed the Teaching Professional Law this year.
 
Minister Özer said that his Ministry wishes teachers to become persons who continue to learn throughout their life and added that they increased the variety of training programs for teachers.
 
"Transforming education requires increasing equality in the education system as well as preparing teachers and students for struggles such as Covid 19," said Özer.
 
Minister Özer also expressed his wish that the pre-summit will make an expected contribution to education policies planned for a better future.
