MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION INCREASES THE NUMBER OF BOOKS IN SCHOOL LIBRARIES TO 100 MILLION

Within the framework of "No More Schools Without Libraries" project initiated on October 26, 2021 under the auspicious of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's spouse Emine Erdoğan in order to reduce opportunity differences among schools, new libraries were established in 16.361 schools. Another outcome of the project was the increase in the number of books in the libraries.

Before the project, there were 28 million 677 thousand and 694 books in the libraries at schools and this figure increased to 41 million 770 thousand and 132 after the establishment of new libraries and increasing the number of books in existing libraries at schools as a part of the project. The Ministry of National Education aims at increasing the number of books in libraries to 100 million until the end of 2022.
 
It has been reported that books per student in school libraries were 1,89 before the project and this figure increased to 2.76 books per student in two months. As of the end of 2021, Gümüşhane ranked first in the increase of books per student with 9,65 books and Bayburt ranked second with 9,53 books per student in school libraries.
 
The Ministry sets a new goal: 6.6 books per student
When the Ministry achieves its goal to increase the number of books in school libraries to 100 million, then it will also succeed in its goal to provide 6,6 books per student in school libraries.
 
The Minister of National Education noted that reducing opportunity differences among schools is an important part of providing equal opportunity in education.
